It is always sketchy to trust a forecast so it's usually worth it to check it out. If it's wet a power safety meeting can be held but today was clear and sunny when we arrived.

The corner pockets were a bit damp but dried out quickly after BMP & Shredder pulled a safety meeting voodoo dance.

The black clouds came in fast - sorry, I really needed to skate so I only took time to snap a couple of Pete.

It's pouring big time now so it was a pretty short sesh but a good one nonetheless

Thurs slacking - Cenen @ Some Surf Spot

Well Thursday we knew we were going to get some good waves, so I decided to go out and focus on getting some pics of Cenen.

FCK surf photography is a lot harder than skate photography!! Nothing is ever the same twice, everything is always in motion and fluid, identifying the surfer is another problem and patience while waiting for a caught wave is a virtue you must have...cramping of the shutter finger will occur. One thing is for certain, I'm gonna need a MUCH better telephoto lens. I moved around trying to get good locations but even when I was sitting almost under the pier, when the wave is caught it will quickly take them far. The telephoto lens I have now is cheap, and focus errors occur at the edges depending on how far zoomed in it is. Anyhow will have to do for now, don't have the coin just yet for a quality telephoto.

The pics don't do justice to the surfing Cenen was doing, but thought youse all would enjoy them just the same. I need a LOT more practice the same as when we all started snapping skate shots....hopefully we'll have a lot of surf this winter for just that!

this one is not Cenen, unidentified surfer, but I thought it was a cool shot...

Wuddup everyone! Here's a OG Vintage Santa Cruz Jammer I got as part of a trade~ It's NOT a re-issue!!! It's the OG THICK FLAT NO Concave Rounded Railed SC JAMMER!!!
It's been nicely used and has been drilled for noseguard, skidplate and rails~ The Raild are OG vintage G&S rails and still intact~ The paint has flaked in places (mostly by the nose and some by the tail edge)and there's some scuffs etc... BUT The nose and tail have NO wear since they've been protected just paint flakes mentioned above~
The whole board holds Originial shape and SOLID!!! $125 SHIPPED CONUS or Interesting late 70's-early 80's trades...need some NOS Conicals!!! But let me know what you got...Thanks guys!!!!

DHS's DANGER BOARD OPINIONs

That board was originally designed to have a GULLWING Charger in front (with its 50 degree pivot angle) and a Gullwing Bomber on the rear(with it's 35 degree pivot angle to eliminate moderate speed SPEED WOBBLE.

I wanted you guys to feel the "surf/snowboard" speed and precision turning...........at a lower, more realistic price.

I figured most people wouldn't go 50mph but,..........If anybody ever did........they wouldn't wobble out.

It is my opinion that you use Sector9 74mm or 77mm wheels in a duro of 78.

They are very forgiving as far as hitting reflectors, manhole covers, or anything else out in the road..............and they grip super good for you guys that ain't going to laydown and drift turns but still want to...........surf out.

They will slide though (once they are broken in) but, if you are a drifter............go for the 80+duros.............they are butter............... or centerset 78 duro.

so the story goes...
(and I AM sure there are tons on here just like me):
skated big time back in the late eighties/early 90's. Had 1/2 pipe in backyard. skating was my life. live-eat-breath skate. Skate at night; day- whenever I could. Could not get enough. poured over every issue of thrasher; studied bones brigade videos (did the whole slow-mo thing to try to figure things out). Graduated HS in 1988; The early 90's were college and more responsibilities and girls and parties and less and less skating... fade away- Get education; get job; go get more education; get another job; etc... Work work work; still have fun with other things in life- and then...

Last year was 2008 (no shit); 20 year reunion time for me. get a call from an old skate buddy; we get to talking... He mentions something about maybe putting up a small half pipe on his property; strange thing is I had recently been (in the very back of my mind) thinking of skating (you start to reflect when your formal education is "over" and you lock into the work groove)... The seed is planted. I start thinking.

The girl I am dating has a son; he "skates" and gets a new popsicle for his b-day/Christmas. One day we are out and about; I take him to a ditch I used to skate- I try his set up. The wheels are too small and rock hard. the deck is too small. BUT i do better than I though I would. Now I know.

January 2009: So I say fuck it; I pull down a set-up simillar to something I rode back in the day off eBay and head back to the ditch. By chance I run into a group of old school skate guys that are even older than me; I feel I am back in time- We talk and it is great. One guy tells me to look into a longer wheelbase... Good idea. My body is a bit different than back then... I am; um; bigger. He suggests a BDS Sacred Heart...

The meeting with the old school skate guys is inspirational.
Thoughout the year I hit a lot of my old skate spots and find several new ones. Ditches are my passion. It is amazing how much my body remembers; it comes back pretty quick (the skating). I do not do the crazy shit I used to; but ripping grinds and other small lip tricks keep me happy. Going fast is good. I get online and do research at bonelessone.com (great forum/site). I buy a few new set-up... (ok; maybe more than a few but who is counting).

It is almost a year later...

It is amazing; up until this point I had zero real regrets in life. Now I do. I regret I did not get on a board about ten years ago when I wrapped up grad school and moved back to San Antonio. I remember back then still having a few set-ups (which I unfortunately sold on eBay); and a-l-m-o-s-t getting out and trying it again... I regret stopping skating and letting it go. I wish I had the years back.

But I am grateful this has come back full circle in my life. My bank account is angry (spend way too much); but oh well. I turned 40 November 5th and finally jumped aboard here at the BDS forum. Man- it is great. I will skate until I can no longer physically do it...

Vintage Roller Sports wheels and Zephyr adverts

Does anyone know if these Roller Sports wheels were ever produced in green urethane?

Can anyone tell me which issues of Skateboarder mag carried the original Zephyr skateboard advert (with picture of a complete 'board) and the black and white Zephyr-Flex (text only) ad.
