WRONG.
Jay can rip for sure. He's one of the few people on here who I'd
like to take pictures of.
but there are a few people on the BDS squadron who are in the
front of the line for a "personal" BDS model. People who have
done A LOT for Wes/BDS.( *cough*Ed Isaacs*cough* for example.)
(and I ain't one of 'em, so don't get started.)

Yes, I am the RIDER (what's that about?).  My "photographer" is just a 15 year old kid from my church youth group I brought skating with me.  He's no photog -period, just a kid.  Yes, the lens got a dirt clod on it ...oops.  He did great, that's all I need to tell him.

It wasn't really a "photo session" either, I was just documenting some test runs and comparing 'em to other similar photo's to see if it works for me, if my style is looser or whatever we can learn from them.

This is my think tank thread and I'm trying to get the ball rolling for moving the 8 wheeler from a traditional plank to a more functional, progressive shape... yea kinda like the squadron board.  I take my 8 riding seriously and I want to see it keep moving forward and not stall out.

Jay is a phenomenon!

This is BIG.

Talk about a short list, Vert 8 Rippers

Toft, Holt, Rockin Ron, Joel and Jay.

There have got to be more, I am just unaware of them.

If not a Ratone model, he's at least a top 8 test Pilot / designer.
Im sure he could be made avail of blanks / prototypes etc.

Maybe He could get Lonnie off his ass, I can see it now: Toft / Vonesh 8, epoxy, baboo, rocker, sidekick...

OUTRAGEOUS

Oh and the side cut is an underutilized concept, very original.

The tail looks cool too! Have you thought about rail to rail shag?

Way to be overly negative. How can it be the wrong to make a great deck, this deck needs to be made. I can't say who deserves what as far as Squadron Members go but, I can say that the Message Board members do deserve this deck. You know - principles before personalities. It is time for the V8 !!!

Dunno, I'm not with you on that! You mean centered in the pic, right?! Well, I think it looks better the way it is, because 1. it doesn't look to clean concerning the composing ( I don't like that!) and 2. you can see more of the space the skater is going to ride next or could ride next ( You know, like to be thrilled "what line did the skater choose after the pic was taken" or more better "what line would I have chosen") instead of the space the skater is coming from (Because that space is done/dead/passive at that moment - the other space is active/full of endless opportunities for the skater and the viewer!). That makes a pic much more exciting IMO...

Back on track here.

Jay, did the cut away sides help any besides weight loss?
How was it grabing the rails with them set in that far?
      An even shorter wheelbase?? Really?
Won't you be getting into popsicle wheelbase then? and would that help.

The wheelbase wasn't short enough to really notice in a bad way.  Possibly the side cut provided leverage (you can see the dusty prints from where I stood) along with the slightly reduced wheelbase did give it some snappier response -mostly coming down off the wall.

I'd increase the amount or length of lift on the nose.  I did some small ramp spine transfers on it and it felt good but a little more nose would seem to help (add it or change the truck set-up/wheelbase).

The side cuts didn't mess with grabbing for airs or grinds, it's still fine.  Kinda wierd thiing is that the boards are already so heavy I couldn't tell any real weight reduction, but it must be there!  I didn't do any tailtaps or tail stalls on it (HOLT does them KILLER! ), but I think it should help hold onto the coping.  I like the tail as is, maybe a little wider though.

It did feel more responsive and pulled in after grinds or R&R's better.  Ummm... that's definitely something!  It's actually doing some things I hoped it would!

I'd love to see Holt, Ron, Jeffe, or some other guys try something like this and get a broader opinion base.

Master Jay, no matter what anybody says, there's probably a mere handful of guys in the whole world who can rip like you on that behemoth, thanks for the pics.
