Not only that, Makos are one of the more aggressive species of shark. When I was a youngster, Outer Banks fishermen would try to discourage surfing near piers by hanging sharks they caught by the tail from the piers. Saw some really big sharks at the fish dump at Cape Point near Cape Hatteras Lighthouse too. Hammerheads and such in the 12-14' range. Spooky

They should have thrown it back into the water right after the catch. It's a beautiful, interesting creature, an important part of marine life and doesn't deserve to be nailed on some ignoramus' wall as a trophy or to just rot somewhere...

My neck of the woods is CRAWLING with makos....love 'em though. Beautiful  creatures. And FAST as hell.
They are agressive but I don't get out unless they're real real close. They prety much keep to themselves and go after tuna offshore.
I did have a very unnerving experience surfing at the inlet solo a few years ago...kinda overcast and creepy and I kept hearing splashing way outside. finally saw a medium sized one just flying out of the water chasing something...they go so fast that they just pop out sometimes (sort of like those pics/vids of whites going after seals) but unlike whites they actually look sleek and normal doing it.  Amazing creatures even for a shark.
