Armando (an awesome bro of mine) ... sorry to hear about the loss of one of your great friends!  As an old East Coast skater ... truly a tragic event for the skate community.  Andy's work has been well documented & he is going to be missed!  RIP Andy ... brother!   I'll be firing a prayer tonight for Andy!!  Andy was way too young to go!!!

A tragic loss.  I heard about today from Joe Mannix and was shocked.  I was telling Joe about the times in the 70's when Andy and his crew would take the train to the Pipeline in Northport and skate.  Us locals would be in awe and the level of skating Andy and his crew were at.  A true icon in New York skating history.  He will be missed.  My condolences to you Armondo I know you and Andy were friends.

I did not know him personally, but I did have the opportunity to see him skate on several occasions. He helped out with last year's Old Man Jam by bringing over some swag donated by Skip from SMA. Considering all the jams we've had at Owl's Head, none of it would have happened without Andy's input to the NYC skate community.

  THIS,...is BADASS!
I sorta met Andy, via Ryan Crase,...(SmithGrind)
Ryan explained the background surrounding that painting of Kesler by .....a certain professional artist here on the forum....Armando. It is a superior painting RR4 !
I  know you are feeling horrible. I am so sorry for you, and your friend's family.
Hopefully they will rise to the occasion, like they did with his, .....Broken leg wasn't it ?

Well, way too young and talanted. Killed by a bee. You just never the moment......may he rest in peace and skate on them skateparks of gold .

Never heard about Andy Kessler before - must have been a great guy to hang out with and a true skateboarder and surfer! Really sorry for you, Armando, and Andy's family!

Everybody knows NYC is ruled by money. Gentrification, the power of the big developers to build gold-plated monuments to America's consumption ethos, all the forces of capital seem designed to drain whatever LIFE there is left in old neighborhoods and put simulacra in its place.
They pull up the old cobble stone streets of downtown, then put down new cobble stones, pre-patinated to look more authentic. They build a theme park version of what NYC was supposed to be, but now its all safe for the kids who move to the city and want to live like the characters on "Friends".
The fact that Andy Kessler was able to eke out a few parcels of land for skateboarders in such an environment shows what kind of man he was. Christ, the guy didn't even have health insurance, and there he was skating hard and battling City Hall. A true New Yorker in all the best ways, communities are built by such people.
