The next five weeks will be bang bang for the pros, starting at Trestles tomorrow then France on the 25th and down to Portugal 10/12. By the time this next run of events completes a new world champ may be crowned and some guys will be raging trying to stay in the top 22 so they don't lose WCT status.

The lady pros will be competing at Lowers as well during the same competetion window.

Will Medina hold off all challangers?

Can Kelly come from behind?

Looking for Brother, it's time to shine!

Which lady's will rise to the top and show their progressive side?

The contest may resume today with new swell coming in and a delayed call at 10am. I'm not sure if they would run the ladys first or start the mens round two action. The mens round two is twelve heats total and the ladys are poised to complete their event with the quarterfinals on tap. I would think with a late start that the ladys may run first and crown a winner later today and the men will fire up again tomorrow.

Current front runner for the women, Carissa Moore, got bumped out in round four with a big upset by Cali girl Lakey Peterson. So a new face will be on top of the women's standings by the end of tomorrow, and the chase for the Womens Crown is heating up big time along with their surfing.

Congrats to Stephanie, she shined so bright in the final. John John and Jordy in the Final coming up now. Bummer for Slater, will be much harder to catch Medina now, but JJ is on fire. that round 4 heat yest of his was RIDICULOUS!

John John !!!!
Looks so easy and cool when he surfs. My fave of all.
Nobody on the tour as his free surf attitude in contest.
This is maybe why he ll never be world champ. But he has alreay won some of the most sought after contest at home in Hawaii.
And he skates a lot too .

I've given up on Chlöe and Simpo.
Neither one of them seem to have what it takes.
I love their surfing, but they just don't cut it on the CT.

I was thinking along those lines as well. But when you listen to his interviews and some of his quotes, you can tell he wants to win everything. He is just learning to do it his way and not listening to all the CT noise. I think he is getting closer to figuring out his formula, he just doesn't want to post safe scores and then thow down the heater and he doesn't want to be a contest machine like Slater or the rising Medina. Somehow he looks to become a mutant cross between Dane and Parko. Can't wait till he figures it out (his way) and is constantly top 5 and contending. We don't see him being coached and bogged down with trainers like many of the other CT pros, and he is still a young gun having fun while he tackles the pressure of becoming a contender.

My thoughts about him have been turning towards these ideas and I'm so glad he is not of the Medina mind set. He has so wanted to beat Slater in a heat after losing to him at Chopes and Pipe last year, the student wanted to beat the master first. Everybody better watch out now that he has done that.

Yeah, he is on top of my list too.

A couple more thoughts while I'm rambling on.

Dane Reynolds and the CT. If Dane really wanted to consider getting back on the tour, now would be a good time to do so. I wasn't involved that much with surfing when Dane was on the tour and only recently over the last several years have I started paying attention to the CT and the list of top level competetion surfers. So I have only seen Dane when he has been invited back in as a wildcard to select events. While watching Dane in these events it seemed he was really disinterested competeting in a couple of them and a couple others he would give some effort to make some heats. When he was in an event where there is plenty of swell and not as much stratagey involved to gain priority or hassle for waves, his interest seemed to be at a higher level because he could just go out and mainly concentrate on catching good waves and just surf the waves. When he was in an event which had a lack of swell or he had to hassle and compete for waves (HI) then he would just kind of paddle away from the main peak or just sit out there and not push it.

Some guys like Medina are just hungry to compete and others (like Dane maybe?) just want to perform.

With all the new priority rules in the CT and QS a big portion of the hassling for waves has been diminished. Not all of the stratagey about paddling back out for priority when there is an exchange or four man heats is gone but it is of a more refined level.

I think this could be a good time for Dane to get back in the fray if he wanted and have the performance style he would like to compete in.....

Just a whimsicle thought...

That's where Kelly's headed.
If the swell is good, he's interested.
If not, he'd rather be somewhere else.
Totally understandable.
