Hi Wes,

Glad to see you up so early. We are all very excited about this build. Will be riding this one around the back roads of New Hampshire.

Have you thought about Limited's or the possibility of doing one in Carbon fiber?

Wow, Kick Ass Wes, Freaking Sick, that's gonna look Great !!! Took this out for a spin yesterday at Los Osos and I gotta say, this board rides SWEET !!! Coming from someone who rides 9" decks this board felt really lite and easy to ride. The Beamer concave felt really good under my feet, feels perfect to get the ball of your front foot in the trench. To me, the best rider yet, Nice Job Dawg !

Right on, Dawg! The art is killer and the new concave kicks ass! Congratulations!

This is one to ride, fo sho! After loosening the trucks and rolling with Black Deaths, I immediately got aggressive and fast. It is one hell of a sweet board! Probably my favorite since the Holt and Plank.

I'm really glad to hear this compared favorably to the Plank and Holt!

Wes,
is this the first "trench" style deck on the market??????????
if so, Big Dawg please patent the design so when all those popsicles start coming out with a "trench" you'll get 10% ~ serious mon.

You want style?
get your foot in the trench!

It's impossible to patent a "Trench" on a skateboard. The only thing other companies would need to do is change the shape, length or width. Unfortunately that's the way the cookie crumbles. Wes should Date the board with a 5-2014 and OG TRENCH! [fu2] the rest!

I'm of the belief that you can patent something like the beam/trench on a skateboard deck as it would fall under "Article of manufacture" and "Improvement to the above".

Case in point: pretty sure the comic shred guitarist Maestro Alex Gregoy made his fortune from patenting the 7 string tremolo bridge and humbucker.
He sat on the patents until the 7 string solid body became popular, then licensed the designs to Ibanez (among others)
(he may have been rich before, I can't say... but he does own these patents, and has been earning licensing fees on both since the 80's, and he sure appears to be rich now,
and it sure ain't from record sales [rofl]

Floyd Rose probably makes more money from licensing his design (which is an improvement on an existing product) than he does from his actual product (which, when purchased from him, is expensive.  His licensed design however can be found on thousands of low-end and mid-priced instruments as a standard feature)

Even just applying for a patent gives the inventor a sort of immunity from competition for the duration of the process.
Gibson back in the 50's stuck a Patent Applied For sticker on their (6 string) humbucker pickups to prevent the competition from being able to swipe the idea.

(sorry all my examples are guitar-related...guess what my other hobby is?)

BDS might be considered a 'micro entity' making the filing fee only $70 (but that's not counting lawyer -ing up)

It would probably be a good investment to seek the patent on this because if riders start wanting it widespread, licensing the design concept would be very lucrative.

From the U.S. Patent office website   http://www.uspto.gov/   :

What can be patented – utility patents are provided for a new, nonobvious and useful:

  • Process
  • Machine
  • Article of manufacture
  • Composition of matter
  • Improvement of any of the above

Considering the 'Improvements' aspect, I  bet the concave deck would've been a patent-able thing.
Imaging getting a nickle for every skateboard ever sold w/a CONCAVE...[eek]

Wes I really do think it would be a smart move to cover your backside on this improvement to the design...
