Well, there goes the neighborhood. It's like a dagger to the heart of the standalone BDS site. Fuck Facebook...

1. Okay, so I have no interest in educating you or anyone else into the issues with Facebook and their historical and ongoing issues with their security policy.  The cartoon below has been posted here and elsewhere multiple times.

2. This site has been on it's deathbed for months, if not longer.  The passing bell has been rung multiple times, seemingly narrowly avoiding death.  To me, this is the oncoming death knell of this site.

You want to use FB? Good for you.  You don't agree with me about this site?  That's fine. Let's revisit this topic in a year and see who's closer to right.  Honestly, I hope I'm wrong.

If BDS moves 100% to FB, absolutely true. Don't worry Harry, I've never missed you when you were kicked off multiple times.  I'm pretty sure I'll be able to handle it.  Uh, GLWS...

The facebook page was created on October of 2014, I posted its address yesterday. I did not need to bring an elephant or a gorilla into this room.

The page was created on behalf of Wes and this group of good folks.

It was not created to take this site away.

1000s of message boards have folded up shop due to online use & growth

Brick and mortar businesses of all types continue to feel the effects of the internet.

So predict the doom of life here Mike as if this new FB page.  Bt this is not against you -- its just how things are.

So now that its been up for 3 years I felt like it might be time to show the elephant and the gorilla to the group

To me -- the biggest death of skateboarding is this -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/282636266042?rmvSB=true

Well said Dan, it's economics and just life, better to do Facebook then to look at eBay as the only source to these classic decks.

Anything to be contrarian.  From the guy who wept tears of joy after his every second of 15 years of his life quest for the only Murf on black formica was scored off of...wait for it...eBay.

Anyway, thanks for the additional feedback Dan.  Three years ago, BDS was a thriving site.  Now?  Last new production deck was 15 months ago (although I certainly respect Wes's decision to do what works best for him), although there was a new graphic on car paint back in April - that took nearly three weeks to sell out - 10 decks.  With few exceptions, decks posted on BST often languish.  You bought that Sacred Heart car paint from Flexy a few weeks ago.  300HP had the same deck (different #, but same colorway and graphic) that sat on BST for something like 4 months last year.  Most people here don't buy anything unless it's a damn fire sale price.  Most, not all.

So, that's my take on it.  Different potential impact of FB now vs. 3 years ago.  If standalone BDS continues down the path it's been on, my concern is that it fades away.  Way of the world or not, that's just my feeling on it.  And I've made it clear about my feelings about Facebook. I don't take it personally, I just have serious concerns with FB.  If others don't that's their business.  I'm not trying to convince anyone about the way they should or shouldn't feel about FB.  The only time we've had any activity worth noting on this site in the last year was when Wes contemplated taking the site down.  Now, right back to the near death status.  And like I said earlier, I hope I'm wrong.  Time will tell.

The point still is,

Ive been communicating with Wes on FB for this same span of time as well on here. This is Dawgs page without a doubt.

Blair Watson at Skull N Bones has a page on FB that he controls for the exact same reasons. His message board is also victim to the growth of FB and interweb users.

some of the dates your sharing include some very trying times for Wes. The grind of making new art is not a problem for Wes. Its relying on others to produce the decks, the transfers, the movement. the shipping, the selling.

I am sad about the state of many things in our world -- but not about Bulldog art on skateboards. Its still the best thing going for real soul food. I have not stopped buying from Wes over these last 3 years. I have Wes on my payroll monthly doing hand draws or blacklines.

He has been getting other work from these black lines. His family orders issues have had some time to pass and seed in. THe Site has just taken a huge hit from FuckBucket. Its time to support BDS in both places to see it survive. This is why i posted, I dont take the same issues with FB -- cause i dont give a fuck what they know!!!

Your on the BDS forum -- so your really not hiding from big brother, it just feels better here. And I totally agree with that. I just don't pretend what I want to happen will.

Dan

FB has certainly had an effect on the forums that I visit, many also have FB pages but it's not quite the same as a dedicated forum. It's a shame it's so quiet in here, but there's no point in morning about it, it up to us to create the content not just Wes with his product. Sales are slow because the people that remain here already have most of the boards being offered. I would like to see something new but that's down to Wes.

It ain't worth bitching over, I despised FB for many years, but one of my other interests dictates that if I want the best stuff FB is where I'm going to get it.

Facebook definitely not the same.  There's no organization to it.  You just have to scroll and scroll.  Here you have some organization and continuity and a better way to avoid redundancy. Facebook is just kind of random.

I don't mind that there's a Facebook page.  I joined it and I see BDS posts on my FB feed almost daily.  It's fine but it shouldn't be a substitute for this message board.

There is no comparison between this forum and Facebook. As someone said above, there is not structure or organization, just first come first served on the posts so trying to find something a couple of weeks later is a joke.

I appreciate the efforts to have some sort of replacement if this place closes down, but until then, i'm not wasting my time supporting anything else... I like it here and so does the 30 to 50 other people not taking the time to sign in most every time I come to this website.

What Hank said.  No argument from me either.  Back up is fine, but while I use FB a bit, I don't spend much time there, or scrolling through all of the posts.
This forum is much easier to use, far more fun, and much more intimate.
Photofuckit did mess us up a bit, but I am sure that we can continue along just fine.

The back up is fine, I just hope that I never have to use it.
