Dude, Natty, that's my old skatepark!! Haven't found ANY footage on this place, but it was so EPIC!!! That cloverbowl was only about 8' in the deepest part. You HAD to use copers, it was the rule. That coping was just TOO easy to grind!! Thanks so much for showing that.

Wait til 70's Skater sees this! He'll be trippin'

Wow...that was some EPIC footage...thanks for sharing that.

Who were the skaters and where was that park? (edit: Miller & Schroeder/Wisconsin)

That clover was getting worked.

The Turf was 1st opened as Surfin' Turf in the late 70's in Milwakee. We were members before it was even open. It was just the coolest place you could imagine.

We thought that it had to be REAL close to the Cherry Hill park. I moved to Florida in Jan. of 1980, and the place did close, but stayed intact. It became a gentleman's club called Bell E Buttons. They covered all of the bowls with some kind of flooring and it remained dormant for several years. The re opened as The Turf. They added an asphalt street area as well as a competition halfpipe and mini half.

Chris, 70's Skater, can probably fill in the gaps of time I missed because of living in Jax.

I skated it for the last time about 10 years ago, and had the best grinds, I mean, TIME! Till I slid out on the slippery flat of the clover pool and broke my ribs!!

Wow!!!!  Thanks for posting that Natty.  Konarider and I used to skate there.  But never like the guys in the video.  They are just shredding the place.

The video makes everything look smaller than it actually is.  The capsule and the keyhole were DEEP and gnarly.  Just amazing how they are shredding it.  I like the canyon jump.  Sweet.  The clover pool was so much fun.  It would be nice if someone would build one like that again.

The last time we were there was 1992, when Konarider came up to Wisconsin for my wedding.  I dusted off my DTS Bulldog and brought it out for another session.  Even then, skaters' jaws dropped when they saw it.

The building is still there, but I understand the pools have been filled in and a concrete floor poured over them.  A landscaping company uses it as their warehouse and they run forklifts in there.  After it closed for the first time in the early 80s, it was turned into a strip club called "Bell E. Buttons."  It later reopened as a skatepark in the late 80s, but then closed again for good in the early 90s.

Thanks for them memories.  If you happen to run across any more pics or footage, let me know.

In 1980, some pro skaters (Andrect, Olson, LaMar and Terrebonne) did a midwest tour (Apple Skatepark and Surfin' Turf - check Andrect interview in the very last issue of Skateboarder mag, July 1980).  Here is a pic from that tour when they judged a contest at Surfin' Turf.  Terrebonne was not there, but they had another guy named Kent Schiffmann (the guy standing next to LaMar with yellow hair and leather pants).  Anyone ever heard of him?

I was lucky enough to skate there 1 time it was  1 of the best places Ive ever skated, it was right after it reopened from the strip club.  the skater in video is ben schroder,  he rips those backwards nosegrinds! I got it over at concrete D.

So, cupcake, can you answer my question?  Was Kent Schiffmann part of the crew or did he just stay in a Holiday Inn the night before?  Since his autograph is forever enshrined on my DT Bulldog next to Raver, Olson and LaMar, I want to know if he was legit.
