I tried surfing it. Ended up with a bloody lip from an ice chunk. My board just wouldn't float right... It just doesn't work. Trust me.

Seriously though. I don't know why but the boyency of the board was like non existent. Maybe the weight of the slush. Couldn't catch a wave to save my life. Just didn't work.

I'm no scientist, but it might have to do with the density of the frozen water. Frozen water/ice has less density than liquid water.

Anyway, up to a certain point surfing slush waves seems to be possible. These guys surfed the frozen waters around the German island Sylt, which is located in the North Sea. Notice the ice floes... [crazy]

By the time you've paid for hospital insurance it's cheaper to emigrate. Fred has a spare room in Biaritz and there are others around here who don't mind regular visits, skate or surf. Just think of it as a regular world tour. [smile]

cool little vid 70sSkater. I have scoured the interwebs and have a few sites that I use. Mainly wind forecasts, marine forecasts and buoys. The buoys got pulled in the fall though. I have a facebook account, but don't use it. I think I only have a couple of skating pics on it. haha

Hi dirtyrotten! I usually drink hot coffee before my sessions and ice cold whiskey after....haha
I've heard about the vaseline on the face but not your feet? Let us know how the chili powder and vaseline works if you try it! [smile]

Nice slush wave Nate! props to you for even trying to surf in something like that!

PIDDLES! We miss skating with you too! I've heard maybe a concrete park will be built in Canton?
I'm hoping we start skating again in the spring. We will be in touch!

Sadly, I think the lake may be finally freezing over where I surf. We are supposed to get some northeast winds the next couple of days. The marine forecasts were calling for waves from 9-11 feet or so, but now they say less than a foot.

No traveling solo for me just yet. Wife, young kids, a dog and a cat.

Oh well there's a spare bed if ever you're out this way. Same goes for anyone. We live 700m fr some of the best surf in Australia (checkout Manly surf in Oz). We moved away for 15yrs just came back this year. Couldn't wait to get back.

My son rode his first barrel yesterday, water temp is 24' c. Skate scenes pretty good as well. Just a bit of a flight from anywhere else in the world.

this place sounds like a real dream!!! and...go0d that somebody remembered me to pack the whiskey!!! i always forget it! maybe i should try the chilli idea for real this week (for my feet). vaseline on your feet just helps to slip out of the boots a bit faster (and this gives me a few seconds more to get out of my second hand size s wetsuit) especially in these situations you dont feel your fingers anymore.
