I've been interested in trying out the 60mm Cowskulls and was wondering how they compared to the Shitbirds. I've got both the Blackfartz and IPS series, I really like the IPS series but the Blackfartz have always felt a little tippy to me. Would apprecitate the info. Peace.

No, sorry natty, definitely don't wanna get rid of my IPS wheels. Just thinking of adding some Cowskulls to the quiver and was wondering how they compared.

go with the Black Death Cow Skulls...
o.k. a comparison!
The Blackfartz are exceptional wheels. The urethane is
outstanding and the profile of the wheel engages/disengages
the coping very well. The drawbacks for me personally are;
the running surface is a little narrow for my tastes and
at 60mm, the Blackfartz, while being a excellent pool
wheel, are not a good wheel for big long runs, since they are
lacking in mass, they lose speed pretty rapidly.
Depending on what you want, either the Cow Skulls or the
Winged Skulls(both in Black Death formula) may be your
particular "poison".

What version of the cow skulls are you referring of?

I'm guessing that you mean the regular 97A 62mm (cow skulls are all 62mm)?

If so, the IPS wheels will feel faster because of the difference in thane mixture.

If you mean the Black Death Cow Skulls....they will feel more slippery but much faster.  The Black Death formula is pretty much the fastest wheel out now....with Powell SPF being a very close 2nd....if not barely a difference.

But I found the Powell 64mm SPFs. to grip better than a BD-Cow Skull.

I have been riding the Mini Dubs in Black Death formula now for a few weeks...I'm finally starting to get comfortable with the grip to speed factor.

I will most likely be selling off my Black Death Cow Skulls sometime in the near future.....just not enough grip for me with that width of this formula.

If you want to try other wheels that are nice....Rainskates Yellow Jackets....Cowboy Punks Black Plague.....or Skaterbuilts PSF wheels...lots of good choices out there these days....good luck.

I need to add.....that I mainly ride an indoor skatepark.  The clover bowl is pretty smooth in the finish job.....it can get alittle slippery if not moped 1 or 2 times per week.....but I'm guessing that the Black Death formula wheels will grip better in outdoor crete....

I recall skating a few parks in Ca. that my Powell BB 64's felt more grippy than what I was used to in my home park.

Also,  my last run tonight at the park....I took my Mini D's Black Deaths...out on the skatelite ramps to see how they felt....I was amazed that they actually felt pretty grippy on a clean skatelite surface.

So with this in hand...you will find a few different opinions of Black Death wheels as far as grip/slippage goes...but one thing is certian.  THESE THINGS ARE WICKED FAST !!!!

hey Rich,
My Black Death Shogos are THE FASTEST wheels I own.
GODDAMN are they FAST FAST FAST!!!!!
At 62mm, they accelerate more quickly than a 64mm wheel,
they have that HUGE mass of urethane so they retain speed,
and with that huge running surface they grip like Mutha F'ers!!
I slapped some Ron's Ceramics in them; it's like cheating.
I liked the Shogo wheel in it's original incarnation, but it was
too slow to be my favorite.(it was KILLER for the ramps inside
at Vans)
But the Black Death SHogos are a totally different animal.
I think you are right re:Black Deaths as an indoor wheel. I think
they'd be REAL slick. But, as an outdoor wheel, they are
positively INSANE.

Thanx for all the replies......appreciated! I was actually referring to the 60mm Winged Skulls and thinking I'm gonna go for them. All that speed with a set of Ron's ceramics sounds too good to pass up.

Ive been running the black farts on indy 169's and a 9" deck and i absolutely love these wheels.  Not many guys downunder are riding shitfires although more are getting them after having a roll on my board.  Like Chris says they come on and off the coping so sweet.  I find the cow skull grab a little and I really like the standard white winged skulls (until i got the blackfarts)

The Blackfarts a very fast wheel and i dont find them to be too slippery on wood.  I have ordered a set of the IPS for a slightly wider deck I have and have just unwrapped my Black Death Mini dubs which I cant wait to get a rocket up and give them a roll

@Rich 215:

I find the Black Death wheels to be grippier than the Powell Bowl Bomber SPF's.  The SPF's would break loose unexpectantly, the B.D.'s do not.  I dig the B.D.'s, where the SPF's scare me.

The next wheel I'm looking forward to is the new Rainskates Hornet.  Same fast but grippy formula as the 98A 62mm Yellowjackets (same cool color, too!) but in the 65mm size of the Tsunamis.  These should be excellent!  Chris Olden, these should kick ass for Ripon, bro.  Pete should have them by mid-June, so expect to hear the buzzing soon!

Get the Black Death Winged Skulls you will not be disappointed!!!! They are so fast and grip well on everything except dusty indoor skatelite which not even gum will stick to!! They perform like an SPF formula wheel with a touch more grip and a wider running surface. The ultimate pool wheel!!!!

I plan on getting some BD formula wheels but I am not sure if I should order the Mini Dubs or Cow Skulls. I currently have regular 95a mini dubs on my quad 10 and I have Rainskates Yellow jackets on my Bulldog model. I do not get to skate on smooth concrete very often so most of the skating will be on poor quality concrete at a public skate park and at a few different indoor wood parks. The mini dubs work pretty good but so far the Yellow jackets have been the fastest on these surface without giving up smoothness or grip. I do not usually like really large wheels even though that is what I skated back in the 70's so I would like to try the Cow Skulls but I am not sure if they would grip enough on what I usually skate that is why I was thinking about the mini dubs for the extra grip. I like the lighter feeling of mid sized wheels over larger wheels like the regular dubs which I also have on another board but this is just personal preference and I know a lot of guys really enjoy the Dubs and Shogo's.I have tried SPF's and they where to slippery on wood and not very smooth on the concrete that I am usually stuck riding. I do go over to a new park in Athens, Ga sometimes and it is smooth and fast so if they are not the best wheel for all surfaces I will still get to use them when I go there.

I went ahead and ordered up a set of the Black Death Winged Skulls, 60mm. Will post up how I like em' when I receive them. Indeed, I'm a wheel whore.

I just switched Saturday, in the middle of a sesh at Chino, from reg dub cons to the Black Death Mini dubs, and man, way, way faster but still had decent grip.  Great wheel so far on good crete, I was skating better within a few runs!  I like the feel of the dub cons on coping, so I think they are a good choice.

the shitfire/skaterbuilt/creative urethane is the best out there...all around fast, grippy....great on 'crete, good on street and one of the best ever on masonite/sk8alite...I love all the BDS wheels...lots of variations, colors, shapes....in fact, they brought back personality in the skate wheel...something for each scenerio..in fact, the soft mini dub is the best street cruiser wheel ever...but for all around wheel....the blackfart or the IPS wheel does it for me.
