First, I typo-ed my username CedaraAlaia (Ooops!) and then I typo-ed another username cedaralia (Ooops!) and deleted the first "Oops!" thread under that username. I have correctly spelled this username and it shall be the username I use from here on out. I apologize for any confusion that nobody will care about anyway.

I shaped an alaia style surfboard out of some salvaged cedar handrailing.

i garan fucking tee you, i'm the only one that thought cedar when you signed up cedrella for most of them, junpierus for some imitators, yours sounds kind of polynesian if i had to guess where do you live? which will help me ID the red wood in your axe post, some kind of burl or madrone or .... ? otherwise, it looks like you dig fraxinus americana, acer macrophyllum and maybe the occasional honda giken kogyo

I doubt living in Western Washington would help you ID that red colored wood in my "what else do you collect?" post. I tend to use left over hardwoods from projects at my brother-in-laws custom cabinet shop. Ash, maple and purple heart. I used beech for the axe on the trunk of the Honda. Curly cherry is the red wood used for that hewing hatchet. I have been known to use wind fall arbutus menziesii for a haft or two (i.e. that hafted double bit pictured) mostly just to see if it could be done. I would love to get my hands on some robinia pseudoacacia but all I have managed to get a hold of is a nice burl. I am not sure what I will make out of that? I am not a wood nerd so, yeah, I had to look up all the latin names you and I both mentioned.

I used a left over beer can to cook a chicken once.
Welcome.
