Welcome from Weston, FL.  I've been to Brian Piccolo park.  I like it, but the wood's been decaying.  The County needs to give it a makeover.  Lately I've skated Ramp 48 mostly.  That one and Naples are my favorite local parks.

mornin ya'll...
hey elcharlie...how is ramp 48? i keep meaning to get out there, specially everytime i go over to piccolo and it's wet. i have tried the free park up in
tamarac; it's really fast...but ah...there's a lot to be said for etiquette...there's a lot a dropnpoppers n i guess they're not used to someone acually trying to carve and fakie lol...and yeah, for anyone not familiar with piccolo, it's mostly wood/fiber nn it gets used by skate/inliners/bmxers so it has certain characteristic divets from each...
i like it because i can go there early an get three or four hours in before the heat n usually skate two of those hours alone...i throw on some plasmatics or ministry or geen jello; make a stance on the big one in the back...instant vacation from wife an kid...only thing better is the hottub after.

now that i see some locals dropping in...maybe you guys can tell me...
what has happened to the south florida skate scene? shops an parks are disappearing... is it the ecomomy or another generation grow up an get cars/girlfriends?  here in plantation the only outlets for any gear is ron johns, zuminnez or the vans store...not to be an ol fuck or anything, but when i go to the shops i wanna see boards, trucks, wheels; not fucking shoes and sunglasses...
i live not far from where the original hollywood bowl sat, the birthplace of the freakin ollie and the dbl pump ramp an...it's sad.
i hate sending my money to cali, but there's next to no skate scene/support here n don't get me started on the wankers in south beach.
the guys that i have seen that actually know how skate are in their forties!
i see boards being carried around...but very little riding.
i'm told the best park down here is the private bowl owned by ollie...i better get used to skating it in my dreams!

Hello from Milwaukee.

I spent some time in south Florida as a kid and skated most of the 70s parks down there - Skateboard Safari, Skateboard Haven and Solid Surf.  Never made it to Cadillac Wheels until after it closed.

I still visit a friend in Palm Beach Gardens from time to time and have looked around for parks to skate.  The YMCA in West Palm Beach looks to be the best bet in that area.  My brother skated it and seemed to like it.  I checked out the small park in Boca Raton and also the park in Jupiter.  Boca doesn't look like it's worth the trouble.  Jupiter has a backyarder type pool and a kind of tight flow/street area.  I did skate Cocoa Beach and really liked it, but that's a long haul from where you are.

As to the skate scene, it's probably like it is here.  Kids are more into longboarding than skateboarding.  Old guys often outnumber kids skating bowls.  Core skate shops are hurting and have been forced to move into longboarding goods in order to survive.  Competition from internet and mall stores has really hurt core stores.

when i first got here, fivish years ago, there were some shops, including a shop with a wood half pipe indoors...i was thinking sweet...now the best thing going is some guy that deals on the net an outta a porn shop...n it all happened so fast...i'm one of those guys that will support my local scene...but i'll be damned if i can find it...so iffin til then i'll keep doin what i'm doing...i learned the first time it all collapsed back in the 80's n we didn't have internet...we cavemen made rails an tailbones outta wood...an bushings outta industrial tubing from the hardware store...in the winter i skated my foamcore backwards in the snow with fins i made from an ol erector set! i got nothing to prove, i juss need to find some dubcons before my fat ass turns the ones i have into trapazoids.

See if you can score some Ultrathanes.  They're faster and grippier than the 95A wheels and should last a lot longer too.  I sold an NOS set recently.  Not cheap, but worth the dough.

Chris, I did not skate those parks.  Never even heard of them, for that matter.  I remember Tomoko(?) Moon Forest and maybe Sensation Basin.  I didn't really get up that way back then.  I used to visit Chuck in JAX back in the 80s, but never made it to Kona.  I wasn't skating then, so I didn't bother.  Regret that now, though.

i ahh keep hearing about this glassdickblower dude...i don't know if i have had contact with him or not...i also buy on mepay, but the only people to jerk me around were the hotwheel people(nuffsaid).  this guy(an he probably is on this site somewhere runs the 7ply skate shop on wepay...he seems alright but i have greater needs than he supplies...i juss don't skate what he offers. i met him at his...store...and he seems alright, i thought i could save us both the hassle and bypass wepay but i only need so many hybrid baseplates to convert my indies. yaknowwhad i mean vern?

i have also been told about the ultrathanes...but same story -out of stock...sold out...i would love to try those an a set of black deaths.
i still don't know how i missed out on the reyoyos...i'm totally into wheels above 90 A...i skated a set of blue k-9s and flatspotted the first time out...pissed me off.

rod's rules to skateboards:

1)1)1) never skate a painted deck, especially a repro(too easy and tempting to hide defects).
2) try to stay away from repros and wall hangers.
3) it's ok to spend a lil more if it keeps me from buying more of something
cause i have to replace it.
4) if you like something, buy more cus everyone else probably does too(n they never make enough theses days...specially good wheels.)
5) chances are, unless your name is humpston, alva, alba, logan, salidiino or blackardt...your name ain't going under my feet anymore.(there are a few others but because of rule no.1)
6) skate it because ya trust it, not because someone tells ya it's cool.(good advice is one thing n ya need to know when ya hear it.)
7) double barrel bushings...flatwashers.
8) hybrid baseplates with 2 1/4" kingpins rock. ( and save on crushing bushings into washers permantly.)
9) i can break a popsicle, a penny and a banana.(no need to embarrass myself, nor do i feel the need to become acquanted with my local emergency room staff. they'e busy people, i don't need to bother them. let alone their shit about "how old are you?).
10) i refuse to skate anything named orangatang nipples!

i so remember that issue of skateboarder...my head hurts everytime i see pics of old issues...i have a few but dad threw the gist of em away as soon as he got the opportunity...i'm looking for the ol bad co. ads and the haut stuff...i always wanted one of those but it just never worked out. i know there are sites that have some of that stuff, but i never see the ad for the bad co. foamcore...my battered brain cells tell me they were the first to do it...
and that forward swoop curve of the older haut stuff...ahhh...i have to go touch my kryp foamcore again and tell her she's still pretty...later when my dumbass figures out how to post pictues i'll show ya the logo i was working on for a stinger proto i've been widdling on. ( if wes doesn't mind)...it's simple, basic, but a throwback to past days and pays homage to the lama-flex...and maybe, the quiver of glory skates gone by.
