An appropriate topic for today.  But that is how I feel.

About a year ago I had just learned 50-50 grinds and was getting really confident in them.  That was until I hung up on one and slammed to the flat straight on my shoulder dislocating it.  I still have a little discomfort a year later.
Anyway, since that time I have not been able to do 50-50's at all.  Yeh I'd pull off the occasional one but they were few and far between.
Well, this week I was skating a park here in the Detroit area that has the best halfpipe I have ever ridden.  Birch plywood for the surface material.
I told myself that I was going to relearn 50-50's this week.  Well, I think I posted last week that I had got them down.  But I was still a little hesitant.

Well, last night I skated and was working on them and had them pretty good and then it happend, I hung up again and slammed on the shoulder.  But, this time nothing happened, yeh I got a bit bruised up but didn't reinjure the shoulder.

After that slam the confidence was back, I couldn't miss, it was like kickturning it was now just another way of turning on the wall.

It was as if the demon that was saying "don't do it you're going to get hurt" got slammed out of me.  I fell, it hurt, but it didn't put me out.

Gawd, I love halloween!!!

Right on! I can relate to how a hard slam can knock the confidence right out of you... Good to hear you are pulling off your 50/50's again. I've still got some demons to deal with myself. Hopefully I'll get to exercise them Monday and Tuesday if it will ever stop raining and snowing!

I know what you mean. Since I started skating again in 2002, I have dislocated my left shoulder (2002) and cracked two ribs (June 2004). But I have slammed hard since with no long term effects. Skating and slamming have been part of the deal since I first got on a sawed in half steel wheel rollerskate nailed to a 2x4 back in 1966.

ex·er·cise   Audio pronunciation of "exercising" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (ksr-sz)

Activity that requires physical or mental exertion, especially when performed to develop or maintain fitness: took an hour of vigorous daily exercise at a gym.

ex·or·cise   Audio pronunciation of "exorcise" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (ksôr-sz, -sr-)

  1. To expel (an evil spirit) by or as if by incantation, command, or prayer.
  2. To free from evil spirits or malign influences.

You don't want those 50-50 demons to get stronger and fitter, you want to get rid of them, man!

Spelling has never been my strong point.

Everyone knows engineers can't spell.
