For strats i like Lindy Fralin's pickups.it gives that nice quack bright strat clean sound ! but the fender cs has all variety of pickups for their earlier models. As for amps I stil have an silver face twin from 74. not only that is all tube but it has the master volume for a nice natural overdrive sound from the amp. The black face lacks from that. Boogie mesa have some great amps also. but I've been so out of date with the recent gear  !!!

hey,
Out of date with gear??!!
The last gear I bought was in '97!
That was my Mesa amp and cabs.
(before they were the amp du jour of the mope rock/emo scene)
My newest guitar is already 4 years old going on 5.
I would like to go amp shopping, but talk about f'in expensive!
$3000+ for a Bogner head...ouch.

No shit about the Bognars...every one I've ever heard is freakin' amazing tone wise.  The combos are bad ass...I drop in this place and turn 'em up on occasion.

I have an earlier Twin, without the Master and you've nailed exactly what it's lacking.  There's something about that Blues Deluxe and the early Princetons.

So many great amps around.  So far the Dr Z Carmen Ghia is the grail for me:

Two knobs is all you need.  Nothing to foul up the tone!

Buy a new connector pot and solder it if you want to find out why it's not working or better yet take it in to a "special" fix it guru (Not Guitar Center) and have them do a pro set up...you'll be shocked at what a good tech will do.

Here's a link to where we take our gear.  I wasn't sold at all until he worked over my guitars/intonation, floating bridges, etc.  Then he totally redid the frets, the neck, action, etc on my bandmates brand new Custom Relic Strat...thought it was odd, but he was amazed when he picked it up - the guy has some secret knowledge....

hey Ron,
I didn't know you were a Stick player!!
RAD!!!!
Tony Levin is just the baddest MF'er on the planet!
I'd love to try one of those...but I'd probably get my
fingers tangled in the strings!!
VHT Pitbull???? You really are THE MAN!!!!

Tony does kill the stick!! I dont play it like that. I play thru distortion and the whole bit. Melody side thru Delay and Reverb, LOTS.  I like playing the bass line and the melody. Emmitt Chapman lives 5 miles away and I actually go to his house to get strings. Ive been lucky enough to see his collection including his new 12 strings sticks and got to play a few. His Stick collection is REALLY rad !! His wife is great too..... Every once in a while, a Bar out here has Stick Nights and all kinds of stick players show up and play. They are ALL better than me.

hey Ron,
A Stick through an old ada MP-1 with a bunch of delay/reverb/chorus
would be SICK!!!
I always thought a Stick would be kick ass in a hard-rock/metal band.
just for a different approach.

hey Harry,
Put some 12-52 strings on there;
tune it down to E"flat" and play a blues riff.
SWEET.

I agree, and maybe even some 215's and Mellow Yellows...That would make it one smooth axe!
