Its more of the way it sounded, when a stoned low rider would say "AYYYE HOLLLLMES..." Mexicans speak slower than most other spanish speaking people.. So the L comes out cuz they are not saying "Aye... Homes." People would look around like HUH?? "What homes?" Its chicano..

Tho-They ARE saying HOMES, The L is Silent, making it spelled that way

I had always thought that the term Holmes was short for "homeboy". None of the Chicanos every spelled or said it "homes" where I grew up - it always had the L in there.

But since we're searching for etymology, maybe "holmes" didn't come from "homeboy" at all. Maybe it comes from French? "Homme" being "man" in French, and all.

LOL

homme may be french for man, the pronounciation is om

The derivation is still that of 'homeboy', from the etymology i previously described. Holmes is incorrect in spelling and pronunciation.

Orrale homes, ill check you vatos out later, aye.

You guys amaze me. I simply ask about a eulogy, given by one of the top 5 skaters of all time,, a felon, and icon at the same time. And having found peace, is asked to eulogize Polar Bear....
I just wanted to know what Christian had to say....that's all.

Aye Soul,

It's true man, I went to New York and was amazed at how fast they speak spanish. And my Cuban homie was the one that really pointed it out to me, He speaks very fast, and he would laugh cuz people (in L.A.) would tell him to slow down.
