I can't compete with the above, although stoked my closest brother in the universe just hooked me up with this Vintage NOS 85 Hosoi Hammerhead.  Have a ton of repros ... but nothing touches these OGs.  Thanks JP!

WeededWade ... up front I'm definitely not a Hosoi history expert.  What I had heard is Hosoi's father contracted with a Canadian company to build him a pallet of decks.  These were the first versions (post Alva).  The only thing I can validate is that this deck came in a bag with a made in Canada sticker and bag looks old.   While these Canadian decks hit the street ... Santa Cruz released their version of the Hammerhead, then Skull, etc .....  My opinion is they are all sweet and now need to get an SC and Skull version.  Cheers!

Nope! People don't know wth they eese talkin about! lol!!!  Most of The fake ones had funky ass colors like rainbow fades inside the circle etc etc and not many had black outlines around the graphics/lettering(mostly silver outlines or other colors) and they also had wider noses and more rounded around the egdes etc...  ANd it also depends which hammerheads ur talkin about~

Okay here goes... the VERY FIRST Hammerheads, of which I had that I actually got from Christian and Ivan back in the days, were made by him and his dad~ They came in White with the red dot and black triangle graphics with the black outlined lettering WITH BLUE OUTLINED TRIMMING JUST AROUND THE LETTERS and some didn't have the blue outlined trim and ALL just said "SKTBRDS" at the bottom part of the triangle BUT the VERY VERY FIRST prints didn't even say "sktbrds" and then after a few runs of those he made them ALL WITHOUT the blue trim around the letters with just black outlined letters and he also had the BLACK DECKS with the ALL WHITE GRAPHICS and none of the Circles were painted red on the black ones but were all just one tone white graphics! AND NONE of these 1st GENS SAID "Hammerhead" on the them!!!
Whew.... Now THOSE WERE all THE 1st GEN HAMMERHEADS!

ANd then a few months later these that you see with the "HAMMERHEAD" LOGOS came out before SCS/Skull SKates from the CANADIAN Makers of which Christian and his Dad Ivan made a deal with and were being sold at shops like Gremic Skates, Surf/skate SHops etc etc aaaaand THEN the SANTA CRUZ and SKULL SKATES Versions came out ALMOST at the same time a lil and I mean a LIL wee bit after(maybe a month) the Canadian variants... and I don't know the whole story and don't wanna get into it but from what I understand, they had a huge mess goin on with the 3 manufacturers etc... so a whole shiet load of the Canadian variants weren't being distributed but ALOT of shops still had them and I'm sure the manufacturer kept selling them to shops, because I heard to ship the huge shipment back to Canada would have cost him more money sooo I heard he was sellin them for dirt cheap and later just left the pallet in San Diego somewhere and sold em for next to nothing.... so therefore that rumor started on THESE VARIANTS as being fakes BUT THESE WERE NOT FAKES and WERE IN FACT approved by Hosoi and were SOLD as True Hosoi Hammerheads BEFORE SANTA CRUZ and SKULL SKATES~~~~

BUT NOW ALSO there WERE FAKE ONES FROM CANADA(don't know who knocked em off) that looked funky  with the same graphics etc... but with different colors and most weren't outlined in black(alot were outlined in silver, yellow etc...) and had rainbow colors etc... and shapes were more rounded around the corners with a tad bit shorter and wider nose etc...
WHEW!!!!

Canada FACTS!

WWW made most of the decks from Canada. TO make a long story short. Hosoi went to WWW and signed a contract to make a few hundred decks a week, WWW bought all the lumber to make the decks. Well something happened and Hosoi went elsewhere SC or Skull Skates wherever leaving WWW with a bunch of wood and no $$$$. WWW said fuck it and printed the decks anyway... Straight from the horses mouth. It was a great story I wish i could have recorded it. So yeah like meth said the decks are not fake just super mass produced!

Yup and only distributed some in the beginning before it ceased so there were alot of NOS decks left~
BUT to add to that, as I said above, there are IN FACT FAKE ONES, that are Totally different from these~ They had minis that weren't marked minis and there were about 3 diferent sizes and I remember even back then as teenagers when we didn't know jack shiet we used to still say the knock offs were either from Canada or Taiwan(back then Taiwans labor rates were cheaper too before everything went to China)~ And the funny thing is alot of collectors nowadays think those fake ones are real and these are fake! LOL!!!
They had a ton of fake Hosois and Lester Kasai Clown squidnoses floating around back then!

I love you and Jeremy,  you guys always make up the coolest stories    I'm just fucking with you.......     yeah a collector that I used to buy stuff off of had a black one that he couldn't even get a 100 for on ebay,  maybe it was 200,  that was like 07 or 08.......    before I got schooled in the fine art of collecting
