Yes I am. Today was a lay day. Was on the beach at 6:45 am and it was glassy. Good 4 to 6 foot.
At mid day wind fucked up a bit the wave but ...
Tomorow, a big swell is coming. I’m sure it will be a go for the contest.
Gonna be there from the very first wave til the last one !!!πŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ€™

Crappy pictures from my phone. I took a lot more with my camera but will post when back home
I was on the beach the very first day and took part in the homage ceremony for Andy Irons !!!

First day of the trial was pretty big !

More on the WSL website.

Cant wait for tomorow. I am living one of my all time DREAM. being on Pipe beach with big barreling waves ridden by the best. I HAD to do this once in my life

Pretty long trip from Biarritz. More than 12 000 miles. Total of 18:30 of flight.
I made a stop for three days in LA and met super great BDS bros πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
I’ll tell the story later

I woke up at 4:45 this morning. Was one of the first at Pipe. Nightime. Could just hear the ocean.
Unfortunately, the contest was called off due to macky condition. Swell not the good directin, wind had blown all night and the line up was messed up.
The swell kept increasing so I went to see Waimea bay. In two hours it went from 8 to 10 foot faces to almost 20 on the bigger set !
Guns were out, BK, Brewer .’’ I love gun shape !
Stayed there two hours just to watch. This place is just BEAUTIFUL.
Two crazy bodyboarders were having fun (?) being smashed in the shorebreak 😱😱
As lifeguards said, it is not a swiming day today πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Fulfill another dream today : WAIMEA

Aloha update (for those who like it ;-)
A lot of big swell and a lot of winds made it impossible for Pipe to run.
Not a problem for me ;-).
I was on Waimea beach when sun was not even awaken and stayed for 7 straight hours to see people going out surfing

Couldn’t beleive my eyes. Seing Grant Twiggy Baker or Kohl Christensen going out on messy, windy 20+ foot waves with a big smile on their face !
I know there’s some Hawaiian bro here in BDS that are used to seing that. But for my frenchie eyes, it makes the loooooong trip from France to Hawaii worth it.

I saw a lady, in a two piece bikini, take her gun and go to the peak as if I was going to surf my 3 foot home wave!
I saw another one putting her fins on and go swim towards to very far away peak to see the guns in action !

And what about the place ! Waimea is BEAUTIFUL. Theres something special about this place!

I love COUNTRY

I also went to the road’s end in Kaena point ! A wonderful place.
I’ve always loved Islands and have been visiting great ones but Oahu is my fave.
If I had time, I’d visit Maui and Bid Island too. They attract me.

Now spending some times in Waikiki.
TOWN is a way different stuff. The only thing cool is to walk on da beach and see that famous Royal Hawaiian Hotel. And to see Diamond head in the background. Apart from this it is packed with japanese and chinese people. Packed with toursit gift shop or big mall.
Not my cup of Tea indeed.

That's awesome Fred- been enjoying your posts. Only been to Oahu a few times, but am much more comfortable on Maui, especially in the water. Having a 6'6" Kazuma made in Haiku, about 10 min from Ho'okipa, where I usually go out.
I agree, the North Shore of Oahu is a very special place if you are respectful to the locals. If not, it can be very unwelcoming...

Keep it up Fred sounds like trip of a lifetime - my son just arrived in Aix for 8 weeks for an exchange as well. He turned up in shorts and it was snowing!
