Looks a bit like a Q10, huh? ...not your typical fat nose Powell.  This deck is choice - killer setup too!

This was my first, brand new, pig-type pool/ramp deck back in about 1981. When I quit skating, to chase rowdy women and drive the hell outta my '69 Mustang fastback, I either sold it or gave it to Shawn (who I use to skate with all the time). This was around 1984 or '85. Last week he traded it bak to me! He had re-drilled it for less nose, but I'll set it back up as a snub nose. Now I just gotta get the Gullwings and Bones Cubes for it....and then I can break it out and ride it in the bowl every once in awhile! I could also use a square of old style clear grip for over the dragon on top, and a fair amount of fine grip for the rest of the top. Anyone have some they wanna part with?

Man, I'm stoked I was able to get this back! It won't be leaving me again!!

Nice orange Jay Smith, Matt!

Bobby's orange Britelite is pretty fuckin sweet.

The blue Jay Smith concave is sweet too. I remember when that one came out I wanted one super bad. Never got one, but I have the reissue (not even close).

More Britelites!

I rode all 3 decks the Rodriguez, Brite light, and the Smith back in the day on half pipe ramps. Best day ever was the Ray snub nose with the tracker mags and variflex cores.
High air and layback air like I'd never done before. Surprises me now because it was not a big deck, but super light set-up. B-lights were good too but a bit spongey and the tail could have used a bit more oomph. The Jay was great, a bit heavier if I remember but it had the concave spoon nose thing, I always thought it was one of the first to have it, nice tail angle and longer wheel base.
All three of those originals seem better than Powell's current re-issue J-Smith which is less wide and noticeably mushy, but then maybe I'm just waxing nostalgic..

The new Jay Smith re-issue isn't even remotely close. No snub nose and completely wrong size and shape. And those are just the things I can see in pictures. I've heard there is no fiberglass layer, either. Basically, they re-issued a graphic.

I agree. I've always been disappointed with the Powell re-ishs. It looks to me like all they are doing is slapping a different graphic on the same deck. They all seem to have the same "one size fits all" shape.

Zzzzzzz. Bor-ring.

Yeah. In fact, that's what brought me to the BDS site in the first place, the disappointing ride of my recent attempt to get back to the rampage on the Powell Jay re-issh. That's why I'm stoked to finally score the Gas Head. The new Jay doesn't even have the extra width and longish wheelbase of the original, being only 10 x 17.25 respectively. Yeah, I even blame my recent body slam on the flat bottom on that deck since my front foot kept wandering forward on my one-wheelers.. Yeah its the equipment's fault I fell, yeah...

hey B,
which Jay Smith re-issue are you talking about?
the one I have is a snub nose; there's maybe an
inch and a half of nose in front of the truck...

CO, 1.5" is not accurate compared to the original. They re-issued the deck I posted above, with the iron cross and splatter graphic, but they stuck it on the complete wrong size and shape deck. My real Jay Smith is something like 10.75" x30.75" long with a 1.25 truck to nose. I'll bet yours has not only 1.25 on the nose, but quite a bit more, and the width and length of the deck are gonna be off...not to mention over-all shape. I'm so disappointed with Powell. I wrote them an email to let them know. I'm just glad I didn't fork over the money for the re-issue.
