Looking for new wheels-
Any experience with RainSkates Black?
The website indicates they are the same formula as the Black Death wheels we all want.

They're good wheels, but Black Death are still better, IMHO.  Black Rain are the next best thing to Black Death, I would say.  I have some 60mm Black Death and 60mm Black Rain, so I have been able to compare them.  I have Rockin Rons in both, but there are still variables that might account for skewed results (different setups, different ages of the bearings, etc.).  "Results" are only subjective anyway.  My theory is that the grooves in the Black Rain make them feel slower at first.  I'm waiting for the grooves to wear off and then will "compare" them again with the Black Death.  Also, I think the 60mm Black Rain have less mass than the 60mm Black Death, because the Black Rain have cores and the 60mm Black Death do not.  Not sure if that makes any difference in speed one way or the other??

Rumor has it that RS ripped off the Black Death wheel.  Or at least tried to get as close to the formula as possible......There was a guy on here a while back that was a Rain Skates rep, and was the one who talked up the Black Death to RS.......He was kicked off of here numerous times for pushing Rain Skates while Wes was making/selling wheels.

Actually, after 20 years we just decided to sell everything-both cars and the tractor/trailer.
Both cars are perfect, and neither of us have the same desire that we did. Raced at Thunderhill a few weeks ago, both did very well, and just like I never tell myself 'this will be my last run' while skating, decided to walk away.
On the wheel front, all of my BDS wheels are wearing out and looking for something similar. Ordered some 60mm RS blacks which their website says are the same formula as Wes's Black Death- although they list as 101 and the BDS wheel summary says 99?

It's touted as the same formula, but who knows?

Similar propensities for speed and grip as Black Death.  If not the same, pretty close.

Sorry to hear you're out of the fast car hobby.  I'll be out at RA for the IMSA race in August (rooting for BMW - teams RLL and Turner).  I guess I could also go to RA for the Indy cars and NASCAR, but not sure about that.  A day of watching racing at RA is a bit of ordeal when it's hot and you want to see the race from different corners.  Maybe one race a year is enough for me.

I just got invited by some friends to go see an upcoming sprint car race at a dirt track about an hour from here.  Tony Stewart (not a fan) is supposed to be there for that one.

I'll be doing my annual go kart race this summer with my competitive group of friends (and then be really sore for days afterward).  Looking to finally take the top of the podium, with only second and third place finishes there.

Well if it is touted as the same formula, then it is a pretty blatant rip off, and Wes should have banned the loser/thief sooner!
Wes has done so many good thing for skating, and been very innovative.  I HATE the A$$ WIPES that continue to rip him off!
The same guy wanted to know why I did not stick up for him when he got booted, and ask Wes to reinstate him!  Once I told him why, I received a few nasty e mails.
If I see his mug in person, I may just clock him!  Could happen on any trip to San Diego.

I'm pissed about the Beamer rip off, but not as much with this. Wes hasn't made any wheels for quite some time and it doesn't appear that he will-I think that we're a pretty small market for what I've read is a big pain in the neck, with a very small profit.
Also, Rain Skates doesn't seem to me to be trying to convince us that this is their formula-they mention 'legendary Bl#ck De#th urethane compound'. I only ride only BDS decks and would prefer to ride only BDS wheels- but as my wheels slowly wear out, have to look elsewhere.
70's- in a few days I'll post some in car video from the last time we were at Rd America.

Cool.  Will be cool to see the track from the driver's perspective.  Carousel, Kink, Canada.  I just have to remember to look away before I get motion sick.

Edit:  Too late on that motion sick thing.  I just Googled Canada corner and watched an in-car video of a guy crashing his Porsche in Canada corner.

I like this "how to" video much better.  Didn't make me sick to watch it and gives a lot of good tips on driving the track.

The Black Death and the Black Rain were both poured at AEND, I would assume that the formulas were almost identical.

FWIW. I have Shogo Dragon Black Deaths with Independent 7 bearings set up on a BDS Gashead with Indy 159's.  I also have 63mm Rainskates Black Rains with Rockin' Ron's Rocket bearings set up on a Deckcrafters Killdozer with Indy 215's.  The Gashead with Black Deaths is noticeably faster in my local bowl.  That being said the two boards are vastly different in design.  I have had the Black Deaths on the Killdozer and it was fast but I have not tried them on the same board on the same day.  Maybe next time out I will swap the Black Rains onto the Gashead to see which wheels are faster? For an even better comparison I should put my other set of Rockets in the Black Deaths and then try both sets of wheels on the same setup on the same day.

Black Rains may share the same formula as Black Deaths but thats about where the similarities end.  Black Rains are 101a with no offset and a much narrower contact patch.  If you're looking for a similar feel as whichever Black Death wheels you are used to it is my opinion that you would be better off forking out the dough for a lightly used set whenever and wherever they come up for sale.  Besides, narrow center set wheels with axel nuts sticking out the side just look goofy, especially on bigger boards.
