Peace
Moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn in 1998. This was taken from the 69th Street Pier.

The end of 2001 was rough for me and it started when I broke my ankle the day after my daughter's 3rd birthday. I had surgery before Labor Day in Manhattan and was pretty much homebound. On 9/11, I got a phone call from a friend saying a small plane hit the World Trade Center. I turned on the TV a few minutes before the second plane struck. The replay showed the plane hitting the tower and you can see that it was not a small aircraft.

War

I hobbled down to the pier on my crutches. I had to go through an underpass to get to the pier, all of a sudden I hear screaming and yelling. The expression on everyone's face was shock and disbelief. As I came out, this is what I saw and people told me the building collapsed. I could not believe it.

Hope

Progress
This was taken this morning. It is really hot, humid, and hazy, but you can see the Freedom Tower.

It's hard to believe that 12 years have already passed by. My condolences go out to everyone that lost friends and family in NYC, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC on that day. I am also proud how all Americans responded to this tragedy with their support. Never forget!

yeah I remember it like yesterday, the whole event was one of the two main things that got me skateboarding again, the other being the Dogtown and Z-Boys movie.....    I figured I might not live forever and I had better go out and grab life by the horns, thanks for the pics

Thanks for posting about this terribly sad event....

Someday when watching the documentary filming displaying the events just after the collapse of the towers.
In the blinding dust of the buildings, listen to the silence being broken by the beeping of hundreds of little beepers.
Those are the firefighters location transponders they wear to be found in a disaster.
Makes one want to cry... They are all gone.... Just the beepers left in the dust....

So many heroes, and good people lost that day.
USA lost a lot that day as well....

Every year in my office I put out "Never Forget 09/11/01" flag shaped refrigerator magnets and window stickers....
For office mates to take, use, remember or pass on to a friend.... Bot several hundred 10+ years ago.....
SPECIAL PRAYERS, SALUTES, To all affected these past 12 years and forever..

World Trade Center Today...

Amazing that on the eve of 9/11 the president pleads with America to approve  sticking our noses once again in a war we cant afford nor need to get involved in.

Whats even more amazing is that our sunni muslim born and raised president is either affiliated with, or has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and want us to fight with/for their military wing Al Qaeda who is responsible for the 9/11 attack.

[1174960_416307505140894_305821740_n1]

Plus he Muslim Brotherhood members in his administration....

The list goes on and on...

May we never forget the pain of 9/11, and keep the memory of those lost that day and subsequently in the wars and from health issues related to being on the scene of Ground Zero close to our hearts.  It is still so fresh.  My brother, his wife, and their (at the time) 7 month old son lived in the closest residential building to Ground Zero on Rector Place.  He did not have a permanent office there, but he often worked in one of the Towers.  Not everyone experienced the relief I felt when talking with them later that day and finding out they were okay.  Those were some unsettling hours, but it was obviously an event that was much more tragic and traumatic for so many others.

We were working away on sports cards & we all listen with headphones to Howard Stern & He started saying "How could a plane hit the tower on a day like this" & other guys working there we all looked at each other & went to the front lobby to see the TV's & security was already in there watching with their eyes buggen & mouths wide open, some crying.....  I'll Never Forget that feeling!

Yes I paused for almost 11 minutes today after lunch and remembered. I was working on a historic house restoring the porch ballistrudes and railings-heat gunning, stripping paint making epoxy repairs, etc. My crew and I had onlynbeen working a couple of hours that morning and had the radio on when the music got interrupted with reportsnof the first plane hitting.

One of the owners came out and said did you here? I said, what the hell is going on with the airplane pilot? After talking for a little we went back to work and then the second plane. After that we knew something was up. The owners said we could work or go home just in case. We all didnt know if it wasnt going to be happening everywhere. The owners were two gay guys, one white and the other middle eastern. The following week he kept telling us stories of people staring him down and shit. It was a strange and confusing time. My feelings go out to all the kids that lost a mother or father.

I was going to add, it sucks that there was several reports of the plans of 911 that FBI had months earlier but they got shoved to the bottom of the pile. One agent in phoenix had very detailed reports of exactly what was planned two months earlier. The previous administration had compiled almost 10 years of intel on al quida already, but the new administration refused to review it saying they were building a new team and were starting fresh. Its a typical approach being the new team, being blinded by pride and arrogance. Richard Clark tried over and over to get them to review the previous administrations findings of the plans of terriosts that were in training, etc. It was all there in front of them.

Brings back the sinking feeling and emptiness every time I think about it.

Hard to believe something so horrific is even possible especially when you consider the number of heartless people, calculated planning, and  the fact that is was undetected over the long period it took to execute.
