This was a surprise restoration Birthday present for a guy in the UK. It had been left outdoors for many years and the top yellow Bowtuff had gone transparent. I actually thought it was clear Bowtuff showing the natural wood until I removed the grip. The ply sides were in pretty bad shape too with signs of rot. It's a 27" Freestyle because the plys are thinner than the Bowlrider.

Nice try! His father and brother funded the restoration.

Not sure what you mean. It was airbrushed with an accurate colour matched yellow acrylic, then very subtle colour streaks added to match the OG Bowtuff. Finally, lacquered with a slight ribbed finish, again to match the OG finish. Not a very good photo, but it shows the top prior to lacquering.

I only use this technique when the Bowtuff is badly discoloured. Here's a better photo of the before and after colour treatment. This was a restoration for MikeInMD.

OK so you painted it.  I was thinking it looked like a layer of yellow grain formica laminated on top of the existing plys.

The side shot looked like there is a layer added on top of the original fiberglass top, but that must just be the shadow of the angle..

[underside_joined_zpsdqhxppmc]Here's a before/after photo of a Sims Superlight 10.0 I've recently finished. I've got another Superlight 10.0 with the logo and lettering mostly intact so I was able to make a tracing of them, transfer the outlines to the deck and hand paint them. For the Sims logos it was a case of mixing red acrylic paints to get a close match to the original red. The tail saver is a used original that came with the deck. I just gave it a sanding before re-attaching it. A previous owner had put metal slide bars on the underside which had rusted and stained into the wood. I still haven't decided whether to cover them with stickers or make some wood slide bars instead. I also tried wood dye on the truck area ghost shadows. I thought I'd try and match the dye with the surrounding varnished wood but when I varnished the dyed area it darkened it. So that's something to take a note of next time.
