I knew him in San Francisco a little. An amazing talent taken away too soon. He had a lot more work to do in this life. I missed the memorial paddle out up on the Sonoma Coast for him after the wreck. I still wish I made it to that. It's strange, the day he died he was hoping to collect on an original oil that had just sold. It was 1991 and the payment was a couple of grand. Now, a first-printing of his old posters sell for that much. Two months later my boss and the guy I met him through, Bill Graham, died in a helecopter crash about 2 miles from Rick's house. RIP R.G.

Great expose' on RG's (surf related) work. I dig the "virgin and virgin" Chumash/Malibu painting, where he didn't tell the theme to the mag.

He loved his bike, and he went out riding, so there's an upside, I guess

As a grom, I'd always flip to the Murphy cartoon first when I'd get the new issue of Surfer.

I was pretty stoked when I won a surf contest and this was the trophy....

Love Griffin's art for years ! One of his works for The Grateful Dead inspired me for my first tattoo a few years ago - I used the skeleton in the foreground and combined it with another board and Asian style wave! It's straight over my heart....

If I'll find out how to copy a pic of it from my photo file right into the internet I'll post it here! Don't understand the Canon-navigating by now... No idea!
