I am selling off lots of my collection. Some of you have purchased from me here and on ebay(I know, shame) under user name beachbumgirl. I have lost money on most if not all the decks I have sold and I say that ONLY to indicate that I am not looking to turn profits here. I have a few grails I paid top dollar for (rightfully so...GRAILS!) and am considering the possibility of setting them free to be enjoyed by fellows of the stoke. I'm not dumping these. I will not even respond to any lowball offers. (what I paid listed below)
Red Z13- $900
Blue Z13-$900
Green Limited Santa Monica Cross -$500

Namaste!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "buy them from Wes price" was $500 each and that was to a HANDFUL of select individuals

If you were lucky enough to procure one of the retro carpaints from one of those select individuals I can assure you that you paid well north of $500

How do I know?

Because I paid $800 each for those Z's, and I let him know that before the deal went down

And for the record, he paid me $900 each (yes, I made $100 profit on each deck)

I didn't hold a gun to his head or lie to him, in fact that final price included delivery to his front door

The moment I pulled away from his home I felt sick to my stomach, I could have shot myself in the fuckin face

It was a lose/lose situation, my decks were gone, and so was the money

Do I regret selling not just one but both of my Z's (at the same time no less) - fuckin aye right

Would I do it again?

FUCK NO

There are a few that I've let go of that I HIGHLY regret selling, those Z's being two of them

The thing that bothers me the most is the new "trend" regarding not only Wes' art but the uber rare decks as well

Without mentioning names, a couple of members have taken it upon themselves to completely DESTROY the worth of Wes' decks by selling them for significantly lower than than the original purchase price, in turn, redefining their value

It breaks my heart to see what has happened to the value of Wes' work - IT'S LIKE SPITTING IN HIS FACE!

If I had the financial ability, I would be dialing Mr. Smith's number, electronically transferring him the funds and taking the same journey only this time to bring my babies home

FACT

I paid what I paid....too much?....subjective. I didn't necessarily post the prices as sale prices but more a point of reference. These decks won't be worth the same to every collector. No need to delete, activity can't hurt.

Interesting conversation. The points made do bring out what I see is a little out of whack; a lot of folks want to make as much as Wes did when he originally sold the decks. $500 decks sold to the first buyer for $800 is a little steep on the profits for the original buyer, then the small markup for the next sale just jacked it to a price that would almost get you an original.

I remember when I sold some black death wheels for $85 and was questioned on my markup. haha i couldn't figure out where the profit was there after paying Wes $70 and then adding shipping from Wes and then shipping to the buyer. If someone is willing to pay a price that is out there by some folks standards, then let them.

Why not just let the market determine the price? If Msr Smith wants to sell, good for him but he can politely decline. Asking what he paid is not unreasonable, it's what everyone tries to do when they sell anything, from a house to a fridge, even in falling markets.

Doesn't matter what someone pays for a deck if they are prepared to pay the asking price. The market or buyer has to be there to support the price. When this forum was buzzing and there were loads of people here posting everyday prices were up because the buyers were here competing for the decks. BDS Forum is just a shell of what existed, People have moved on the hype and fury has died down, the marketplace is different now. If the buyers aren't there you can still ask what you want but you're not going to get it. It very much depends on whether the seller wants to sell their decks and how desperate they are to turn them back in to money as to what they are prepared to accept, in some cases they are going to make a loss. You can try and hype and bolster a price or market as much as you want but if you don't have willing buyers you are pissing in the wind.

Wouldn't be the first or the last time that a collectible has changed price dramatically whether that's up or down and that applies to all collectibles, art, cars, jewellery, furniture, guns, knives, soft toys, Star Wars products, etc. Etc. they all rise and fall in price according to the market place and desires of the time.

Based on Shackleford's post, now is probably not a good time to PM inquiring about the availability of that magnificent hot pink DD CP. [frown]

From a "rookie", [wink].  There is always market fluctuation.  Personally I buy what I like to look at.  I don't buy for a flip, or even to plan on making money.  So if I sell, and I lose a bit, I have still won because of the enjoyment that I received from looking at the art for the time that I had it on my wall.  When you go to a movie, you pay for the entertainment.  You don't get your money back, even if you don't like it.
But you paid to be entertained.

As far as Shaq goes, you might as well as shoot yourself in the face.
Every decision that we make in life, we make with all of the information we can have at the time, and presumably for the right reasons at the time.
Hindsight is 20/20.  If we second every decision in our lives, we would be awfully F'ed up.
Second guess yourself when making the decision, not AFTER you have made it.
You made the decision about that action (to sell) for particular reasons.

Hand draws and CP's are two different animal in my mind.  If you want the highest quality, most limited production of Wes's art, this is what you search for.  Still highly limited.
If you want it, buy it.  If you don't feel it is worth the ask, don't.
