Apparently Vans is being pushed out of the mall.
Free admission until closing- I heard in a few months.
The biggest, baddest and best bowl I've ever skated.
If you have the skills-and you certainly need them- plan a trip before it's too late.

How can this be?  It's an icon.

You can skate almost an exact replica, but you have to come to the Midwest - Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Not certain when it will close, but I'm planning to take a few mid-week trips there after working overnight. In October I flew $99 round trip from Denver to LAX, which is about 1 hr's drive. John Wayne airport is 15 min but triple the price from here.
It is crowded nights and weekends but daytime Mon-Fri is pretty open (except when there's an amateur contest coming up like last time I went). Skating it is close to a religious experience for me.
70's- I'll look that one up, but without the tile and coping won't be the same...

Paul, it will still be worth the trip. Trust me.  That bowl is pretty thrilling all by itself.  Bowling Green is a Wally Hollyday park.  The concrete is excellent.  There's two other bowls there that are also fun, one with a 13'(?) cradle.  I had a lot of fun in the smaller flow bowl, but I know you prefer deeper pools.  But, you will have plenty of deep in the other two bowls.  Plus, Louisville is not that far away and plenty of deep stuff for you there as well.  There is also a combi at Nashville which is deep, but pretty tight.  Big flow bowl there too, with a cradle, which is very fun.  Those three parks are a very doable road trip.

So Chris- are we talking the next BDS get together?
Apparently Cab has retracted his online post- and I spoke with Vans who said that they won't be giving up their lease and that it is now free to align with their outdoor park in Huntington Beach.
I'll still be doing some mid week strikes just in case- and returning my mid- Cabs if it closes!
RR, will let ya know-Feb or March, will fly out after working Tues night and skate Weds afternoon and Thurs morning before a flight home.

We tried to organize a Midwest Jam a few times, but it never really materialized.  There's just not enough BDS members in the Midwest.  Closest we got was a meet up of three members at Bowling Green in 2008 http://bulldogskates.websitetoolbox.com/post/bowling-green-midwest-jam-2742155?trail=15.  You'll have to view in with Google Chrome with the Photobucket Fix extension in order to see the pictures.

Spoke with Vans and they said it was purely a rumor. Cab had posted it on social media and apparently that has now been taken down. They said it is now free to ‘align’with their outdoor park in Huntington and they want to give back to the community. Their lease is up in November but they said they have no concern that they won’t continue.
I’m still gonna do a few quick strikes before November just in case.

I have to say that the London Vans skatepark isn't that great either. They put two giant doorways/windows in the sides of the bowl which really compromises the lines available unless you are proficient enough to make it over them. It would be so much better without them.
